Error #1: Spending too much time searching for and booking flights and hotels

As business travel agents, we know how enjoyable it can be to plan a great itinerary for yourself or your colleagues. However, sometimes the destination is difficult to fly to and requires a layover. Then it can also be tricky to find a good hotel nearby, and if that doesn't work, an expensive taxi has to be used or a car rented.

If your colleagues book their own business trips, how do you ensure those expenses align with your organization's agreements? Booking an excessively expensive ticket can happen because individuals haven't been able to view all flight options or haven't realized that flights to that destination are also available from, for example, Rotterdam or via a layover. In short, it can sometimes be quite challenging to put together a suitable travel itinerary.

Many companies are unaware that travel management companies have highly advanced online booking tools. These systems go far beyond consumer-oriented tools like Cheaptickets or Vliegwinkel.nl. Just look at the service fees and administrative costs per booking on those sites. They are often twice as high as through a travel management company's tool, and you receive little to no service in return. In short, why would a company book through that channel?
