5 tips to cut costs when booking business travel

5x how to save costs when booking a business trip

You probably know it: it's time to start planning your next business trip, but you have no idea how best to save money on your upcoming business trip. We at Uniglobe Alliance Travel can help you with this and give you some valuable tips in this blog!

1. What day of the week is most economical to fly?

We previously shared in our blog "5 golden tips to fly economically" that airline ticket prices are influenced by several factors and therefore can fluctuate significantly in price. However, weekend departures are generally more expensive than weekday departures. Here the days can vary by continent, though.

For example, for Europe, Friday is the cheapest day to leave, but if you are going to Asia, for example, Wednesday is the cheapest day to leave. Below are some popular business travel destinations (departure from Amsterdam), with an indication of when it's best to leave:

Barcelona : Saturday and Sunday most expensive, Tuesday and Friday most economical.
Bangkok : Friday and Saturday most expensive, Wednesday most economical.
New York : Friday and Saturday most expensive, Monday most economical.
Lisbon : Wednesday and Sunday most expensive, Tuesday most economical.
Rome : Tuesday and Saturday most expensive, Thursday and Friday most economical.

2. On which days is it best to book?

It is best to book on a Thursday or Friday. Monday and Sunday, on the other hand, are best avoided for booking airline tickets. These are generally the most expensive days. In addition, book on average 55 days before departure, then you are often the cheapest.

3. Save through flexible departure times

Early flights are often the least popular with a business traveler, but can save you a lot of money! Therefore, consider an early flight to your business travel destination.

Besides saving you time by not traveling to the airport during rush hour, you'll be in plenty of time for the meeting with your business associate AND you can fly back earlier in the day instead of another popular flight time.

4. Save by combining your business trip

Many business travelers travel multiple times to the same destination. You can save a lot of money on this too. In fact, many airlines work with fares based on a minimum stay.

Suppose you travel to London every Monday: a day return with a regular airline can be quite expensive. If you combine your return trip with the following Monday, you will be a lot cheaper. This way you meet the minimum stay of the airline.

Many European destinations have a minimum stay of 3 days. For intercontinental destinations, this can vary by destination. Often this is 5-7 days and/or a Saturday/Sunday overnight stay in your ticket.

5. Save through an online booking tool

When using an online booking tool, you can save a lot, not only in time but also in cost. These tools give you an overview of different airlines that fly to your desired destination. In fact, you may find that a combination of airlines can save you money.

In our convenient online booking tool UBI, is very easy to make this comparison. In addition, it is also possible to efficiently compare and book train tickets, hotel stays and rental cars here. Want to know more about UBI? Then click here or book directly a free online demo!
