5 golden tips for booking a cheaper airline ticket
We at Uniglobe Alliance Travel sometimes get the question, "Last year I flew to this destination in the same period and then my ticket was over € 200,- cheaper, how is that possible?". There is no simple answer to this question, as there are several possibilities:
- Availability of flights. It is quite possible that on the dates you want to fly this time there is less availability than when you booked last year. When availability is lower, and therefore fewer seats are available, it generally results in a higher price per ticket. Yield management can also be a reason. Read more about this in this blog From my colleague Ilon.
- Competition. Perhaps the destination in question was flown directly by two airlines last year and is currently flown by only one airline. Due to the loss of competition, the remaining airline is able to offer airfare at a higher price in accordance with supply and demand (a so-called monopoly position).
5 tips for booking a cheaper airline ticket
Book your own business travel, for example through Our booking tool UBI? Then we would like to give you 5 tips on how to book a cheaper airline ticket below, allowing you to look for the cheapest airline ticket possible yourself!
Tip 1: Opt for a flight with a change of aircraft
In general, direct flights are more expensive than tickets with a transfer. Transferring costs extra time, BUT if the differences are large, it may still pay off. Usually it is also possible to stay longer at the "transfer point". For example, do you have a customer or supplier there that you haven't seen for a while? Then you can combine this and visit this relationship directly. A win-win situation! ?
Tip 2: Keep in mind action weeks
The World Deal Weeks of KLM often fall in the same period each year (usually January and late August/early September), for example, where flights are offered cheaper. Of course, the ticket prices that apply at KLM during World Deal Weeks are also offered by your Uniglobe Business Travel Consultant!
Tip 3: Wish to fly out on a Monday and back on a Friday, but your travel dates are still somewhat flexible?
Then look just a little further! Maybe your ticket could be cheaper by leaving on Saturday or Sunday and flying back on Thursday.
Tip 4: When is a good time to book?
In general, the deadline for booking longer flights is 3 to 6 months before departure. For budget flights, the deadline is 2 to 3 months before departure.
Tip 5: Look into departures from alternative airports.
Flights are occasionally offered at a more favorable rate when the flight departs from airports abroad. From the Netherlands, flights from Brussels and Düsseldorf can be a good option!
