Navigating the skies of frequent flyer loyalty programs: KLM Flying Blue & BlueBiz
In the vibrant airline industry, airlines are constantly looking for innovative methods to enhance customer loyalty and create long-term passenger loyalty. One proven method is the loyalty program, where frequent flyers are rewarded with valuable benefits, which encourages them to book repeatedly. In this blog, we dive deeper into earning points, deploying them, and the path to higher status levels within the KLM Flying Blue and BlueBiz programs.
The three main alliances: Star Alliance, Skyteam, and One World, play a crucial role in this system. If you own a frequent flyer card, you will earn points within these alliances when you fly with a partner airline. (Click on the mentioned alliances to see an overview of member airlines).
Earn frequent flyer points with Uniglobe Alliance Travel
When creating or updating a traveler profile with us, you can register your frequent flyer cards, which means all bookings automatically earn points for your account. We also take into account the benefits that come with your status, such as free checked baggage or priority seat reservations. New cards can always be added to your profile for future bookings.
Focus on Flying Blue
As a KLM Frequent Flyer, you can take advantage of the Frequent Flyer Program: Flying Blue. Flying Blue offers four status levels: Explorer, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The benefits for each level are highlighted below:
- Explorer:
- Four miles per dollar spent
- 10% discount on first additional piece of luggage.
- Silver:
- Six miles per dollar spent
- Access to priority rows
- Free choice of standard chairs
- An extra piece of luggage.
- Six miles per dollar spent
- Gold:
- Seven miles per dollar spent
- Guest access to lounges
- All the benefits of Silver.
- Platinum:
- Eight miles per dollar spent
- Access to worldwide Sky team lounges
- A Platinum service line
- All the benefits of Gold.
Each level requires a specific number of Experience Points (XP) that you accumulate by flying. The frequent flyer program resets annually, with achieving the required XP necessary to maintain your status. Your accumulated miles can be spent through your Flying Blue account for flight tickets, lounge access, or flight upgrades. You accumulate these Experience Points based on the number of miles and class of travel flown. On this page you can find by travel class how many XPs you save on domestic, medium and longhaul flights.
BlueBiz: Air France-KLM's Corporate Program
Air France-KLM has developed a distinctive corporate program especially for companies that travel regularly: BlueBiz. This program is designed to reward companies for business travel with so-called Blue Credits, which are separate from the Flying Blue program. Below is an overview of the main features and benefits of BlueBiz:
- Earning Blue Credits: Companies accumulate Blue Credits based on spending on flights with Air France, KLM and their partner airlines. The more frequently your employees travel, the more credits your company accumulates.
- Redeeming Blue Credits: Accumulated credits can be used to obtain free airline tickets, upgrades and other travel-related services, thereby lowering the cost of future business travel.
- Miles for employees: While your company earns Blue Credits, individual employees also continue to accumulate Miles for their personal Flying Blue accounts.
- Global coverage: As part of Air France-KLM's extensive business network, BlueBiz offers access to a wide range of benefits redeemable at a network of partner airlines.
