TMC Business Travel: Uniglobe Travel

"In the past six months, the emphasis has been on administrative work and settling refunds and vouchers. We have also responded to international developments at Uniglobe with video meetings and webinars. The last few months have been a little too quiet but we see that the recovery is gradual and will probably be a long process. We used the quiet period to develop a new booking tool for our customers called Uniglobe Booking Intelligence (UBI). We recently officially launched this new tool. At the same time, we presented ourselves with a new brand identity and a logo adapted to these times. After 40 years, it was necessary to restyle our branding. With UBI and the new logo, we make visible that we are also vital and innovative in today's circumstances."

Customer Support

"When in March and April the number of transactions fell by 90 percent, it was as if the entire corporate business had gone on strike. And all this while our results in January and February had been better than in the previous year. We expect to be at one-third of our revenue by the end of this year. While that is dramatic, it is also uphill. Airline tickets are the biggest decline. Hotel bookings and car rentals are doing relatively better. Unfortunately, we have seen from country to country with various restrictions, measures and quarantine obligations. Outside and now again within the EU. We try to advise and support our customers as best we can."

"We have different forms: from transaction fee and management fee to subscription. We are transparent about our services and the fees we charge for them. Fees with us can therefore consist of a mix of different fees."

Looking forward to medicine

"To absorb the loss of revenue, we are at the same time downsizing and making our services smarter and more practical. If necessary trips are undertaken, it is mainly because companies have to meet their contractual obligations abroad. Regulations such as those in Canada, for example, which require employees to be quarantined immediately upon arrival before they can enter the country, are taken at face value. It goes without saying that we look forward hopefully to the time when a drug or vaccine becomes available and testing capabilities are expanded at all departure airports. In many ways, companies and TMCs depend on the messages and changing measures of governments. There is an occasional feeling among companies that government measures are a bit too risk-averse. Uniglobe entrepreneurs, on the other hand, are inclined, if responsible and safe, to push the limits of risk."

TMC has added value

Cees Klinkenberg.

"Many of our customers are SMEs. Most of them have not yet heavily developed their Duty of Care into programs. This is different with large companies. A characteristic of smaller to medium-sized companies is that they are pragmatic and cost-efficient. Fortunately, in the SME sector, a lot of thought goes into who will be traveling and whether the employee wants to. Such considerations are playing an increasing role. More consideration is being given to safe and hygienic solutions. So more often nonstop rather than transfer flights. Travel costs remain an essential element. Behind the scenes, we at TMC do a lot of work on consulting, administration and cost management. Not all work is visible to the customer. So you have to make it even clearer what you all do. This crisis once again underlines the added value of a TMC, because they only serve one interest: that of their business customer. SMEs have always traveled cost-consciously but they are also service-sensitive. Companies in this sector are also increasingly booking online. But the booking systems could be a bit easier. Precisely to meet this desire accommodate, we designed UBI as a One Stop Shop travel platform. This tool allows companies to select and book a multitude of products such as car rentals, hotels, airline tickets, cabs and international trains. What sets us apart with this tool is that when the customer is in the booking process, they can ask us offline for advice and personal support. UBI offers the ability to book a complete trip. This allows us to know exactly where the customer is."

Travel Well

"The amount of work the TMCs had to do without payment during the corona crisis further demonstrated the vulnerability of working on a transaction fee basis. When Uniglobe was founded - 40 years ago - we already had the fees for services-model introduced. We were unique in this at the time and still use this model. We have different forms: from transaction fee and management fee to subscription. Each fee is tailored to the needs of the client. We are transparent about our services and the fees we charge for them. Our fees can therefore consist of a mix of different fees. With UBI-online and our personal Travel experts, we are well positioned. This is summarized in our new motto Travel Well. These services ensure that our customers can travel well and safely and do business successfully. Our ambition is therefore to recover faster from this crisis, with existing and new customers, but also through acquisitions. Uniglobe Travel is ready for the 'new normal' after corona."
